Waterfall smelter owned by Anglo American platinum in Rustenburg is a health hazard to the local communities of Bokamoso and Mfidikoe. The smelters release strong chemicals in the form of gas,which are inhaled by the local people.
Where: all this is taking place next to Bokamoso and Mfidikoe,outside Rustenburg.
Impacts: the chemical gases produced by the smelter are very harmful to the health of the local people. The air that the local people are inhaling is highly polluted.
Likely causes: the smelter is burning its minerals using very strong and harmful chemicals which they later release in the form of gas to the atmosphere using very strong and long steel pipes.
