Description
What: Acid water flowing from evaporation ponds of an abandoned mine in vosman area
Where: Vosman, Emalahleni ward 8, Nkangala District, Mpumalanga, South Africa
Impact: The evaporation ponds from the TDB are dangerously situated with 4 dams of water full of acid and the acid goes straight to pollute a sub stream of the olifant river and affect animal and man livelihoods in the area. Children swim in the ponds without parental supervision and the knowledge of them, animals drink the acidic water and there is no life in the water.
other comments: The water may cause skin rash, food poisoning for the livestock, may cause kidney failure if consumed and other diseases.
