Medupi power station

Meduphi20160710 (1)At Limpompo province In Liphalale they have Medupi power station which is the 4th largest coal fired power station in the world but what is so strange is that very large numbers of people who are living in this province cannot afford electricity. Many cannot even afford coal.They use paraffin/diesel /gas to cook and to warm their house.

When people pick loose coal from near the power station they are arrested. When they protest they are arrested.

There is very high unemployment in these communities. This has lead to high rates of prostitution and many diseases.

The companies do not employ local people because they use contract labour from Eastern Cape and KwaZulu Natal and Mpumalnaga
