What: The community of Wonderkop has experienced overpopulation ever since Lonmin platinum mine started mining in their community in the 1960s. The community relied more on agriculture before mining came into their community.

Where: Wonderkop is based outside Marikana under Madibeng local municipality. Where the mine workers massacre took place on the 16th August 2013.

Impacts: When the mine is on strike,the local economy is suffering and the community becomes the victims of crime as the crime becomes the easy way to put food on the table. because the community does not have sanitation, people's health be on risk as dirty water is thrown in the streets.

Likely causes: Mine is offers its employees sleeping out allowance, the community build back rooms for the mine employees to rent out.This practice has become the backbone of the local economy for decades.
