What: houses in Mmaditlhokwa are not good for living conditions of human beings as they are just a structure covering our haeds.during windy seasons, all the radioactive dust from the dump of Tharisa mine flow towards the community as it's only around 500 metres away and penetrates inside the houses.in rainy season, the water enters the house from beneath.
Where: mmaditlhokwa is an informal settlement in marikana outside Rustenburg.it is just 2km away from Tharisa mine and only 500 metres away from the dump.it is also one of the GLCs ( greater lonmin communities).
Impacts: the houses are unhealthy for human beings. They are temporary structures turned to be permanent by tharisa mine. Only people who had proper houses before relocation were build house of which are of poor quality as well.
Recommendations: Tharisa should go back and study their SLP ( social labour plan) again and do as they promised.Rustenburg local municipality should as well play their role by providing services to the community.
